The USGIN Metadata Wizard web site is provided as a service to the geospatial and informatics community.  USGIN makes no guarantee as to the currency, accuracy, or quality of the information stored or referred to here. USGIN will not provide any personal information to third parties. Use of this metadata service is limited to publicly available information.  The submitted metadata's  privacy and long-term storage is not guaranteed. These terms are subject to change.

What information do we collect? How do we use it?

When you use this web service, we need to know your name, e-mail address, and what organization you represent. This allows us to process, store, and protect your metadata.

How does USGIN protect user information?

All of the user information we collect is protected against unauthorized access. Your full name, the organization you represent, and your user name is shared with other users of this service. However, your email address is not disclosed. User sign in (user name and password) is handled through a secured SSH connection by a third party provider such as Google, Yahoo, Windows Live or an OpenID service of your choice. This 3rd party user authentication service is provided by Janrain.

What about "cookies"?

"Cookies" are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. We DO NOT use cookies to collect or store any information about visitors or customers. We do use cookies to identify your current web browsing session once you have logged in.

Will USGIN disclose the information it collects to outside parties?

USGIN does not sell, trade, rent, or give your personal information to others. We do collect aggregate statistics about our users, patterns, and related site information , but these statistics do not include personally identifying information. USGIN may release account information when we believe, in good faith, that such release is reasonably necessary to (i) comply with law, (ii) enforce or apply the terms of any of our user agreements or (iii) protect the rights, property or safety of USGIN our users, or others.
